Volume is a key component to becoming competent at any skill.
Without putting in the daily reps to improve in certain areas, we won’t get very far.
Even with talent, a lack of repetition and work ethic will prohibit most from reaching, and possibly exceeding, their potential.
In a world where many are prompted to always take the path of least resistance, putting in the required volume and focus to develop competence, and eventually greatness, in a certain area becomes extremely difficult.
To get good at something, even with talent, it takes a significant amount of focused time and energy. Basics have to be repeated to develop foundations. Creativity can better express itself with base level knowledge and consistent action. Once we get used to going through the motions, we can start putting our own stamp on things.
“You get what you give” is a popular saying for good reason. Our thoughts and actions are reflected back to us in a type of energetic system of checks and balances. This can be very indirect. Actions we thought we had gotten away with come back to haunt us down the line in numerous ways. Time we wasted in the present weighs on our heads as we age and get closer to death.
These infinite thoughts and actions all have certain consequences over the span of our lives, both good and bad. Put time and energy into something and you’ll get feedback in some way, shape or form. It might not be immediate but you’ll eventually get the right message.
The extra mile adds up over time in both positive and negative directions. Some might be luckier than others. Some might get dealt a better hand. The person we truly are will always reveal itself in the energy we present to the world.
Where we focus our energy is what creates our reality.
The more times you do something, the more experienced you become at it. Once you get the basics on autopilot, you can use that increased efficiency and effectiveness to reach higher levels (or plummet to lower depths).
Be consciously aware of your time and energy. Understand where they are going and determine if this trajectory matches up with your ideal version of reality.
What needs to be added? What needs to be subtracted? Where does the volume have to be turned up?
By putting more energy into our environments and adding value to the people around us, we are given value back in return. Want to make more money? Call more people and sell more products. Want to get in better shape? Exercise and move more often. Want to go on more dates? Go outside and ask more people out.
Taking action and increasing volume will help you get more results at a much quicker rate. Your skills will improve fast. You will face many more challenges and scenarios which will make you more battle tested and experienced in handling a variety of problems.
You can do more without burning yourself out or getting bored. Understand your purpose and your path will become much clearer. Turn up the volume on the dials that matter. You won’t be the best at everything but you can become great at the things that matter.
Never use patience as an excuse to cut down your time. Nobody is crazy enough to tell you that lifting weights 24 hours per day is the best way to get in shape because your training volume is at it’s highest. However, in that same 24 hours we can work, create, study, build, train, eat well, sleep enough and spend time with loved ones. We can focus on enriching multiple areas of life and getting the volume in daily while cutting out negative distractions and energy draining activities.
Give “luck” an opportunity to work it’s magic by turning up the volume in the right areas.
The more shots we fire, the more chances we have of hitting the target. Even with a beginner skill level, we can advance through the ranks much quicker by going above and beyond in the present moment.
The universe rewards our efforts and knows our true intentions. Whether it’s sooner or later, the right results will appear to reinforce that we are on the right path.
Embrace this energy and make the most of every single day.
Your mission never ends.
