The Law of Expectation
How To Shift Perceptions
Beliefs, thoughts and actions.
We’re born into systems that shape our beliefs, thoughts and actions before any conscious awareness or autonomy has set in. Molded by perceptions that have been molded by other perceptions. The lines between reality and fiction are blurred and distorted. By the time the questions are answered, the system has morphed into something completely different altogether. Most strategies and functions are becoming obsolete and outdated at an exponential rate with each passing generation. You can use this as an excuse to spiral, complain and rot away or you can use it as a reminder to move forward and build your own system within the system.
In it’s simplest form, the law of expectation says that what we believe with confidence will start to manifest itself in reality. Our thoughts, perceptions and attitudes about the world, about others and about ourselves tend to shape how we act when confronted with different decisions to make throughout the course of our lives. Repeated behaviours solidify as patterns over time and we cease to question why we started them in the first place or what overall purpose they really serve. Beliefs can significantly impact results for better or for worse across a variety of different areas. No matter how dire things may seem, it always serves us well to believe in the best case scenario while taking action in that direction and grabbing opportunities as they present themselves. Expect good things to happen and eventually they will.
In many cases, perception precedes reality for the purpose of making choices, judgements and assumptions. If we’ve been told something is some way because it is so our entire lives without looking a little deeper into the information and figuring it out for ourselves, we can do much more harm than good by closing off options and possibilities that would ultimately get us where we want to go. This is also extremely true in the opposite sense. If we’re too scattered and paralyzed by the infinite number of options to choose from on a daily basis it becomes impossible to focus and build momentum.
Clarifying motivations.
Combinations of different perceptions on a grand scale mold reality over time. Each overall experience provides a variety of impressions dependent on who beholds it. Some people might be more prone to having a positive outlook and more drive than others by default but there’s a way to steer the ship in the right direction regardless. It might take more work for some to create momentum but consistently believing that something is possible creates an opening for more opportunities to arise. Make the most of what’s presented by synchronizing beliefs, thoughts and actions with the overall mission at hand. Give yourself the best possible chance to bring your vision to life by refining systems over time when new insights and information become available.
Creation and destruction are both important pieces of the puzzle. When you renovate, the process begins with demolishing the old space so you can build from a blank slate. This holds true for any process of change. Something has to be altered or sacrificed to make way for the new system. A big problem these days is circumventing the initial destruction that’s necessary to build on top of solid foundations. Most jump straight into addition without subtracting anything from the current system. This leads to distractions and distorted results. Build traction and momentum by doing the opposite. Start with subtraction and add on top of the base. Figure out the few key areas that actually matter and build daily habits that make you better overall.
It may not be possible to be the best in the world at something but you can be great at a few things that you actually enjoy building a life around. The reality is life can change in a heartbeat and half the battle is being able to adapt and steer the ship back in the right direction when obstacles get in the way of the path forward.
Building momentum through focused repetition.
Synchronizing beliefs, thoughts and actions will clarify motivations by eliminating conflicting desires, which then drives focused repetition toward the desired outcome. This repetition reinforces the expectation, strengthens the belief and amplifies motivation, creating an upward spiral of improvement. Use this momentum to level up in the key areas that you determine are the focus of your time and energy. Avoid excessive confusion and distraction by focusing on completing a task in it’s entirety before moving onto the next thing. Keep the bigger picture in mind but remain present in each passing moment. If you’re working, focus on working. If you’re resting, focus on resting. There’s enough time in a day to improve each of the key areas when you’re building and refining your systems through knowledge and experience.
If you outwardly project that you want something but your genuine desires are completely different, there will be a distortion which unfolds in reality. Problems will occur and there will be a variety of signs, signals and warnings along the way that you can choose to heed or ignore. Over a long enough timeframe, every facade starts to crumble. This is why it’s important to have genuine core beliefs that guide your thoughts and actions. It’s very easy to get distracted these days. Learning how to focus on the few key areas that you want to build your life around will help you gain wisdom and experience that will propel things forward at a quicker pace. By getting the reps in and integrating the feedback received from reality, making progress starts to become an enjoyable process. The feedback loop acts as a source of motivation to push things forward to new heights. Repetition is one of the driving forces behind success in virtually any field or subject.
When you expect success, your actions become more decisive, persistent and strategic. You invest more energy because the outcome feels inevitable. This turns into a self fulfilling prophecy over time. Figure out the few key areas that actually matter and do what has to be done to get where you want to go. Tune out the noise and push through any obstacles.
Keep it moving.
