It’s very easy to give in these days. Doing less is encouraged and promoted. Endless supplies of vices to steal our time and energy. Misery bleeding into every corner of society. Vast majority thinking they have little control over their circumstances. It's as if they’re a leaf blowing in the wind, unable to anchor themselves to the ground.
The tragic part about this existence is that they had power to do something about it the entire time. Instead of looking at what could be done in the present to plant the seeds for a bigger harvest in the future, they got overwhelmed by the prospect and never gave themselves a fighting chance to begin with.
Understand that it will take some time and sacrifice to bridge the gap to between who you are and who you want to be. You can’t be afraid of criticism, rejection or the process of transformation itself. Those daily battles where you go that extra mile when nobody is watching is what will compound in the end. There’s no penalty for doing the bare minimum to get by and spending your free time consuming cheap dopamine. Nobody would care. You are given this option without any negative societal pushback. Just float on by and enjoy the ride. Nobody expects much anyway.
The fact that this is all on our shoulders should help light that fire and spirit inside of us. Start by letting go of unconscious programming that negatively impacted you before you even had the understanding of how to defeat it. Whatever part of your life needs to be cut out should be replaced with something else. Don’t create voids that can throw you off course. Gain knowledge of what can have a positive impact. More importantly, implement what you’ve absorbed on a daily basis. Rewire the circuits. Look at the bigger picture of your momentary actions.
You’ll always feel better when you go train after a long day. Even if before and during its brutal, when you’re done there is a sense of accomplishment and an enhancement of willpower. Now you know you were able to get it done so it becomes easier to ignore the excuses next time. This example can be extrapolated to your work, your business, your network, your faith and many other endeavours. Get it done now in this moment because you’ll never get it back. Tomorrow is a new day and today you do not give in. Get rid of the garbage you know is wasting you time and energy. Give an extra effort by getting the hard work done. Compound the momentum.
This willpower and spirit is often depicted by some great hero in a movie who overcomes adversity. It’s as if they possess something superhuman that the average person can only experience through watching them on a screen. What they can’t wrap their minds around is the daily commitment to excellence over time that transformed them into that current version. The genetics of each person definitely play a roll in this but it deters too many from testing their own limits, regardless if someone may be better or not. You should be doing it to improve yourself and eventually help others along the way.
Bear the right burdens. Persist through obstacles because they will help you create your vision. Don’t bring unnecessary suffering on yourself. There has to be a purpose to building up this willpower. It is a strong tool that will take you far in life.
Get it done.
